I’m snowed in here an extra day in Switzerland, throwing my schedule all out of whack for shopping back home. I can usually stroll through the town during lunch, but this time I would be arriving late. The $64 dollar question is “how late is the store open? Sure I could call them, but since it is currently 3 AM there, I’m pretty sure they wouldn’t be open, even during the holidays.
Even if you own a small little shop and have no desire to become the next Amazon, please consider a web site. If you only post your phone number, hours and directions, you will offer a great service to those trying to spend money with you. And please, no spinning logos.

Last night I was surfing for a gold Samovar and ran into some god awful site intros. These intros subject the visitor to a dazzling experience of animation and sounds before letting them get to real content on the site. Thank God someone early on came up with the infamous ‘skip intro’ button. Take this from ole’ BA. If what you are showing is worthless enough that you feel you should offer a skip intro, drop the intro. Consider your site Detroit: Your visitor’s goal is to get in and out as quickly as possible.
12/19/05: Phishers 1 – Pay Pal 0
After my fourteenth email this week from someone claiming to be from Pay Pal, I began to feel sorry for Pay Pal. Phishers have created a situation where Pay Pal can no longer use email to reach it’s customers. My buddies at PP could actually have a legit reason to contact me, but I would never read it. While some of us would look forward to a world without email, imagine if your company could no longer use it. While I am against most of government’s attempts at regulating this little Internet gem, I wouldn’t mind seeing a few Phishers strung up on the yardarm of the Kalmyr Nyckle.
Perhaps I should feel sorry for those who answer the phishing emails, but I don’t.
